Steam is Valve's service for buying games and DLC and topping up the Steam Wallet. With a suitable GoGoCard card you can buy a game, pay for DLC or add funds to your Steam balance.
Important
The decision on each transaction is made by Steam itself — it takes into account not only the specifications of the card, the billing address and its own security system, but also your IP address and a strict match with the region of your account (when you first add a card).
1. Check your card
- Make sure your card is suitable for gaming purchases and that it states support for online payments. You can check this for your card in your GoGoCard account → the specific card → terms and limits.
- Check the issuing country and the billing address of your card in your GoGoCard account — you will need them further on in the payment form.
- Check the card balance — it must cover the price of the purchase including any tax and currency conversion, as well as a small verification authorization (up to $1).
Important
Before you start adding the card to a service, make sure your card balance is greater than $0.
- The region of the payment method, the billing address and the IP address must match each other.
If your card was issued in Singapore, for example:
- Card issuing country: Singapore ✅
- Billing address: Singapore ✅
- IP address: Singapore ✅
2. Choose a payment option
Steam uses the Store Country parameter (the account region, that is, the store country) tied to the account. It affects prices, game availability and payment methods.
Option A. An existing account in your home region
The safest option. You use your existing Steam account, your real address, name and phone number, no region change is required.
This method works if your region has no restrictions and you have a card from your home region to pay for purchases and top up your Steam account. Otherwise, you may need to change the account region to another one.
Option B. A new account with the region of the card
- Connect a VPN with a location that matches the issuing country of the card and check your IP address.
If your card was issued in Singapore, for example:
- Card issuing country: Singapore ✅
- Billing address: Singapore ✅
- IP address: Singapore ✅
When you enter the card details in the Steam payment form, two countries are available to choose from — your home region and the country your IP address points to. Choose the second one.
- We recommend creating a separate new Steam account — that way you do not put your main account at risk. A purchased game can be shared with the main account through Steam Families.
- When registering and paying, enter your real first and last name in English, as well as the billing address given in the information about your card: GoGoCard account → the specific card → card details.
Risks of option B
Steam's rules prohibit disguising your actual place of residence in order to get around regional prices and restrictions — with systematic use this may lead to restrictions on the account, especially when it is connected with an attempt to save money. We cannot guarantee that a particular transaction will go through this way, and we do not take responsibility for the consequences for your Steam account. The decision is up to the user.
Steam Support reviews a permanent change of Store Country case by case and does not publish a fixed schedule for changing the region.
3. How to buy a game
- Open the Steam store and add the game to the cart.
- Enter the card details (number, expiration date, CVV code) and the full billing address.
- Check the amount and the currency, then press the payment button once.
- If an additional verification page (3DS) appears — go to the menu of your card and press the green 3DS button to find out which confirmation method is enabled for your card. Then confirm the transaction using that method.
- Check the result: Account Details → View purchase history.
Topping up the Steam Wallet works the same way — through Account Details → Add funds to your Steam Wallet. Wallet funds cannot be withdrawn or transferred to other users; they are used only inside Steam.
Gifts are arranged through Purchase as a gift in the cart, but they may be restricted by the recipient's region or by the price difference between countries — this is a Steam restriction.
4. Refunds
For most games a single Steam rule applies: no more than 14 days after the purchase and less than 2 hours of playtime. The request is submitted in Steam Support → Purchases, the decision is made by Valve, and GoGoCard cannot speed up the process, influence it or approve a refund.
The refund is issued to the internal Steam wallet.
5. If the payment does not go through
- Your credit card information has been declined — check the region of the Steam account, the status and balance of the card, the billing address and whether the details were entered correctly.
- Incorrect address — use the information from your GoGoCard account without any changes to the spelling.
- An unexpected error has occurred — try the Steam app instead of the browser, clear the cache, disable interfering extensions and repeat once.
- The amount was charged but the purchase was declined — do not repeat the payment; wait for the final status and/or the return of the amount in the Steam history and in the GoGoCard transactions.
The transactions menu in your GoGoCard account should contain information about the attempted transaction (even an unsuccessful one) with the specific reason for the decline. If there is no record of the transaction, make sure you have followed all of the recommendations above; otherwise, contact Valve support. country
