How to pay for the PlayStation Store with GoGoCard cards

The PlayStation Store is Sony's store for buying games and add-ons and for the PlayStation Plus subscription. With a suitable GoGoCard card you can buy a game, pay for DLC, take out PlayStation Plus or top up your PlayStation wallet.

Important

The region of your PlayStation account must always match the issuing country of your card. The region of a PlayStation Store account can be set only once, at the initial registration.

1. Check your card

  1. Make sure your card is suitable for gaming purchases and that it states support for online payments or support for Apple Pay. You can check this for your card in your GoGoCard account → the specific card → terms and limits.
  2. Check the issuing country and the billing address of your card in your GoGoCard account — you will need them further on in the payment form.
  3. Check the card balance — it must cover the price of the purchase including any tax and currency conversion, as well as a small verification authorization (up to $1).

Important

Before you start adding the card to a service, make sure your card balance is greater than $0.

  1. The region of the payment method, the billing address and the IP address must match each other.

If your card was issued in Singapore, for example:

  • Card issuing country: Singapore ✅
  • Billing address: Singapore ✅
  • IP address: Singapore ✅

2. Choose an option for the account region

The region of a PlayStation account is set at registration and cannot be changed later — this is a restriction by Sony itself. It determines the store, the currency, the prices and the available payment methods.

Option A. An existing account in your home region

The safest option. You use your current PlayStation account, your real data and address.

This method works if your region has no restrictions and you have a card from your home region to pay for purchases on PlayStation Store. Otherwise, you may need a new account.

Option B. A new account with the region of the card

If the payment methods of your region do not accept the card, you need create a separate new PlayStation account with a region that matches the issuing country of the card, and connect a VPN with that location for the registration and the payment.

Risks of option B

The account region does not override Sony's decision on a particular transaction and may lead to questions during further use of the account. We cannot guarantee that a particular transaction will go through this way, and we do not take responsibility for the consequences for your PlayStation account. The decision is up to the user.

3. Paying with Apple Pay

  1. Add the card to Apple Pay following these instructions.
  2. Open the PlayStation Store on a device that supports Apple Pay (the one you added the card to).
  3. Choose a game, an add-on or a subscription → at the payment step press Apple Pay.
  4. Check the selected card and the amount and confirm the transaction, on the website and in the mobile app — with Face ID / Touch ID or the passcode; on the PS5 and PS4 — by scanning the code that appears on the screen with an iPhone or iPad.

Apple Pay is not available in every PlayStation Store region. If there is no button in the payment form, the method is unavailable for this purchase — use direct entry of the card details or an official PlayStation Store voucher for your region.

4. Paying by card directly (natively)

  1. Add the card: on the website — Payment Method → Add a Credit/Debit Card; on the PS5 and PS4 — Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Payment and Subscriptions; in the mobile app — the Payment Methods section in the Store menu.
  2. Enter the card details (number, expiration date, CVV code) and the billing address from your GoGoCard account — without changes. Even a small discrepancy in the street or the postal code may lead to a decline. Fill in the fields in English.
  3. If the country of the billing address does not match the region of the account, adding the card will be declined — this is a Sony restriction.
  4. If an additional verification page (3DS) appears — go to the menu of your card and press the green 3DS button to find out which confirmation method is enabled for your card. Then confirm the transaction using that method.

Do not make many attempts in a row, after several declines Sony may temporarily restrict adding a payment method. If the card will not attach, go back to paying with Apple Pay.

5. The PlayStation wallet and PlayStation Plus

Topping up the wallet — through Payment Management → Add Funds on the website or the equivalent item on the console; it is paid for the same way as a regular purchase. Wallet funds are used only inside the PlayStation Store and cannot be withdrawn.

PlayStation Plus is taken out in the corresponding section of the Store: choose the subscription tier and the period and pay by card, with Apple Pay or from the wallet. The subscription renews automatically — you can turn off renewal in the Subscriptions section of the account management or on the console. Deleting the card does not cancel the subscription.

6. Refunds

In many regions a digital game or add-on can be returned within 14 days if the download or streaming has not started yet, separate conditions apply to subscriptions and pre-orders. The request is submitted in the official PlayStation refunds section — the decision is made by Sony, and GoGoCard cannot speed up the process, influence it or approve a refund.

7. If the payment does not go through

  • This payment method cannot be used / the card will not attach — check that the country of the card matches the region of the account, and try Apple Pay (where available) instead of direct entry of the card details.
  • Billing address error — use the information from your GoGoCard account without any changes to the spelling.
  • 3DS problem — go to the menu of your card and press the green 3DS button to find out which confirmation method is enabled for your card. Then confirm the transaction using that method.
  • The card was added but the purchase was declined — attaching a card does not guarantee every transaction: check the balance, the limits, the tax and the region of the content.
  • Apple Pay is not shown — the method is unavailable for this purchase or region; use direct entry of the card details or a voucher.
  • The voucher will not activate — the code must match the region of the account, regional codes are not interchangeable.
  • The amount was charged but the purchase was declined — do not repeat the payment; wait for the final status and/or the return of the amount in the PlayStation history and in the GoGoCard transactions.

The transactions menu in your GoGoCard account should contain information about the attempted transaction (even an unsuccessful one) with the specific reason for the decline. If there is no record of the transaction, make sure you have followed all of the recommendations above; otherwise, contact PlayStation support.
