Apple Pay is a way to pay for purchases from an iPhone and an Apple Watch in stores, in apps and on websites that support this method. The card is added to the Apple Wallet app.
Important
Apple Pay (Apple Wallet) and the App Store are different services.
These instructions are for adding a card to Apple Wallet. To pay for the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music and other Apple services, the card has to be added to the payment methods of your Apple Account following separate instructions.
1. Check your card
- Make sure the card specifications state support for Apple Pay and contactless payments. You can check this for your card in your GoGoCard account → the specific card → terms and limits.
- Check the card details and the billing address in your GoGoCard account — you will need them further on in the form for adding the card.
- Check the card balance — when the card is added, Apple and the issuer may carry out a small verification authorization (up to $1).
Important
Before you start adding the card to a service, make sure your card balance is greater than $0.
Support for other payment services does not mean that the card automatically supports Apple Pay — go only by the specifications of the particular card. If Apple Pay is not stated in the specifications of your card, you will not be able to add that card to Apple Wallet, paying this way requires a card with that functionality.
2. Prepare your iPhone
To use Apple Pay you need:
- a compatible iPhone with a current version of iOS;
- to be signed in to your Apple Account;
- Face ID / Touch ID or a passcode set up;
- two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple Account;
- a stable internet connection.
Do not switch between different networks while the card is being added. While the card is being verified, do not close Wallet completely, you can put the app in the background, but you should not unload it from memory or restart the device while you are waiting for the confirmation code — this may interrupt the activation request.
You do not need to change the region of your Apple Account in order to add a card to Apple Pay.
3. Check your IP address
Apple takes the regional parameters of the connection into account. If your IP address belongs to a region or territory from the list of restrictions, turn on a VPN and choose a server in another region before adding the card. The list of restricted countries is given in the AML & KYC Policy section.
We recommend choosing a server in the issuing country of your card — this reduces the risk of repeated declines. Use a stable connection and do not change the server until the procedure is complete.
4. Add the card to Apple Wallet
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone. If it is not on the home screen, find it through the app search.
- Press "+" or "Add Card" → choose "Debit or Credit Card" → "Continue".
- When choosing a bank, select "Other Bank", then "Enter Card Details Manually". If Wallet offers manual entry right away, go to the next step.
- Enter the card details from your GoGoCard account: the cardholder name, the card number, the expiration date and the CVV code. Check every digit, the expiration month and year and the absence of extra spaces — and press "Next".
- Read the Apple Pay terms and press "Agree". After that Apple will send a request to verify the card.
- When Wallet offers a confirmation method, choose email and request the code.
- Get the code, go back to Wallet, open the card being added, press "Complete Verification" (if that button is shown), enter the code and confirm the action.
Depending on the type of card, the verification code will be available:
- in the notifications menu in your GoGoCard account;
- in the transactions menu;
- in your email.
The names of the buttons may differ slightly depending on the version of iOS and the language of the device.
Important
Do not request several codes in a row, after a new request the previous code may become invalid.
5. How to tell that the card has been added
Adding is complete if the card is shown in Apple Wallet, is available when Apple Pay is launched and has no message next to it about the need to complete verification.
If the card is shown with the status "Verification Required" or "Complete Setup", the attachment is not finished yet.
6. If the card will not add
- Apple Cash Unavailable or another Apple Cash error — Apple Cash is not used to attach a GoGoCard card and does not need to be set up. Close Wallet completely, check which region your IP address belongs to, turn on a VPN if necessary and try adding the card again. If the VPN is already on, change the server, check that the internet is stable and restart the iPhone.
- There is no "Debit or Credit Card" item in Wallet — check the version of iOS, that you are signed in to your Apple Account, the passcode and Face ID / Touch ID, two-factor authentication, the internet and the IP address. After that restart the iPhone and open Wallet again.
- "Card Not Added" or a failure while adding — check that Apple Pay is supported in the card specifications, the balance, the expiration date, that the card is active in your GoGoCard account, that the details are correct and that the internet connection is working. Then restart the device and repeat the attempt once.
- "Invalid Card" — make sure the card is active, has not been reissued and has not expired, and that the details are current.
- "Verification Unavailable" — this error appears after several unsuccessful attempts in a row. Take a break, check all of the conditions above and try again later.
- The code does not arrive or is not accepted — do not request a new code until you have checked all three places where it can arrive: the notifications in your GoGoCard account, the transactions menu and email (if you chose your personal email as the place to receive the code — the code will be delivered there).
- "Maximum Number of Devices for Card Activation" — the card has already been added to other devices. Remove it from the ones you no longer use and try again.
- Wallet offers confirmation by an unknown phone number — do not use it; go back to the choice of method and select confirmation by email.
If the card has been declined more than two or three times, do not create new transactions, repeated unsuccessful attempts and multiple requests for a 3DS code may lead to additional restrictions on Apple's side.
The transactions menu in your GoGoCard account should contain information about the attempted transaction (even an unsuccessful one) with the specific reason for the decline. If there is no record of the transaction, make sure you have followed all of the recommendations above; otherwise, contact Apple support.
